The best IDE integration for Mermaid diagram authoring and previewing is now also the best free IDE integration for Mermaid available anywhere.
Mermaid Studio Core offers free live preview, Markdown integration (full language support in code fences + diagram rendering in Markdown preview), and Grammar-Kit based syntax validation and highlighting for 24 mermaid diagram types. That’s 24 diagram-specific parsers and counting.
The paid Mermaid Studio Core license grants full access to Mermaid Studio’s suite of tools for enhancing the diagramming experience (e.g., drag and drop flowchart editor, MCP tools, custom icon sets), as well as enhanced code intelligence (context-appropriate completions, inspections, etc.) and editor support for 6 core digram types.
The existing Mermaid Studio plugin is a superset of Mermaid Studio Core’s features and continues to offer the full set of capabilities implemented for each supported diagram type.
