Help plugin owners against harassment

I just wanted to mention https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/MP-7332/Help-plugin-owners-to-defend-against-harassment, because it’s super easy to harass plugin owners, send fake reviews, but we cannot defend.

I’m so sorry for the delay in our response! We try to process the reported reviews as soon as possible, but we’ve been a bit overwhelmed with reports recently.

From what I can see, the review in question was already removed. However, I understand this doesn’t fully resolve the issue, as the user continues to leave comments — and blocking their account doesn’t seem to have any effect.

There have been internal discussions (for example, potentially limiting the ability to leave reviews for paid plugins to licensed users), but no final decision has been made yet. We’ll be sure to update you in the issue as soon as there’s any progress.

What happened between you two that made him resent you so much?

I have no idea.

I can only say that I started to receive toxic reviews the day I started to sell plugins, in March 2022.
Other authors of paid plugins have the same problem, but some of them simply gave up (they don’t waste their time asking for moderation), and their ranking on the marketplace dramatically dropped.

The harassment from the “AlD1ck” user (previously “X”. This is his second account) is a bit different, as he insists, day after day. I don’t know why, and I don’t want to play his game.
These harassments have taught me one thing: never respond to their attack. Never, otherwise it will only get worse (I did this mistake in 2022).

I’m asking for help since ~3 years, and I observed a single improvement on the marketplace: now, users have to put a text if they want to post a 1, 2 or 3 stars review. As you can see, this rule is easily bypassed.
On the other side, the moderation process can be very slow.
It can take up to a week (sometimes more) to remove a toxic notice. A ban can take longer. And a banned user creates a new account the very next day.
Some authors of paid plugins proposed some solutions, but we still have no feedback from JB.
