Trader Verification Requirement on JetBrains Marketplace

Hi everyone!
If you’re distributing plugins on JetBrains Marketplace, be sure you’re meeting trader verification requirements. Our latest blog post has everything you need to know:

Hi Elena,

I’m happy to fill these details in for JetBrains to store, but the website says that, for example, my phone number will be visible publicly. I’m very uncomfortable with this - is this really required by the legislation? I don’t have a business phone number separate from my personal cell phone, and I don’t like the idea of receiving support requests over the phone at 2am (I’m in New Zealand, so in no-one else’s time zone).

Also, are we required to fill this out if we sell our plugin, but not through the marketplace? In my case (and others I know of), I use the marketplace for distribution but I manage my own sales.

Thanks,
Colin

+1, I did not realize that my phone number would be publicly available. And my street address. I was expecting something similar to a WHOIS entry (where you can hide everything).

Yeah, we completely understand your concern. Unfortunately, we are required to publicly display the phone number and address as well. This is not something we have implemented on our own initiative.

However, we tried to display this information as discreetly as possible. A “Trader” button is added to both the plugin and vendor pages, but the details can be revealed when users actively click the button only.

Is this still required if we are not selling via the marketplace, but managing our own sales?

I would put it this way: it is requried for anyone who declares themselves a trader.
And selling through our platform automatically means a trader (as we clearly know about commercial benfits).

Ok, I have filled in the contact details and the company details. Do I need to fill in the banking details if I’m not selling via the marketplace?

Yes, we are required to collect banking details from all vendors who identify themselves as traders. This applies even if they do not sell through our platform.

Ok, I submitted my banking information. For some reason it wouldn’t accept my VAT ID however.

Colin,

Thank you for your cooperation! We’ve successfully verified your trader details, and no further action is required.

Regarding the VAT ID, we likely couldn’t verify it automatically, but we can check it manually and add it for you if you’d like. However, please note that this field is optional.
